It can be disabled by selecting a different page template.
But the pagination should not provide 404 errors, try re-saving the permalinks in the WordPress settings

Use either a default structure or a SEO recommended strucutre

Then check if there is still an issue. Additionally deactivate all other plugins, leave only theme plugins active. If you entered custom code or functions in the theme files or WordPress remove them and test again.
