Lazy load should delay loading of images in long web pages:

This is especially important on mobile phones, i.e. there is no need to load images which are not in viewport.
It should not be just a pure animation (current implementation).

‘lazyload’ is just an animation in our themes, it is not the classic lazyload functionality that loads images when you scroll towards them. That is why in the theme panel we called it loading animation and not lazyload directly. We never specified anywhere that we have lazyload and images get loaded only when you scroll to them. There is no “fix” yet as this functionality has to be implemented by the developers and it’s their decision if this feature gets implemented.

Can you make Newspaper work with https://wordpress.org/plugins/lazy-load/ or any similar lazy load plugin?
Turn off animation.
Use lazy-load plugin.
Or, upgrade hosting/server to https + PHP7 + http/2 and you won’t need it. đ
