Linked image as a post thumbnail

Hello,

Is there any way to insert a URL of an image to use as a thumbnail without having to download and upload it?

As for the images, you can replace the default placeholder images here: http://screencast.com/t/ZFYxku1ggNs

You will have to keep their name and thumb size though otherwise they will not work.

Thanks. But I am not sure if I understood your suggestion..
What I meant was using an image as a thumbnail which is located elsewhere, other than my own website.

We use Auto Post Thumbnail PRO for this on our news network, as we often have news items originating from our main site, but then loaded onto satellite sites covering local news (e.g., national items from our other sites on a national page on the other site). So, with the photo inline in story from mothership, Auto Post Thumbnail Pro grabs first image and makes it ‘featured image’ for post, and then this allows theme to make the needed thumbs for indexes and home page/slider, etc.

Not only solution, but we’ve been using it with TagDiv themes for about 3.25 years now !
