Manually Selecting a Post Date

I am wondering if it’s possible to manually select a date for a post.

For example (Today is August 20th):
I would like the date of the post to show August 29th rather than it being scheduled and appearing on that date.

Thank you,

I suppose as long as you’re not having your site appear in Google News, Bing news, etc., and you don’t mind throwing some portions of the time-space continuum out of whack …

You would likely need to create a custom field, then in the template you’re using create conditional statement that if the field populated show it, and then in that template over-ride the meta data, and not print the normal date field from the theme/wordpress post date field. Of course if Google indexes it on the 20th, they will still assign that “date” to “when indexed” even if you put a date in the future, like 2017 accidentally.

Might be a better answer out there, but this is truly “not normal” practice for posts in any normal way for publishing, search engines, etc.

Haha!

Hey Chris,
I was asking this question because I am creating an Event Page and when I create a post it shows the published date. If someone was to see this they would assume this is the event date (which obviously we don’t want).
I could hide the post date but then that would hide all the dates for the other pages as well.

Unless there is a way to hide the post date just for this one page? I don’t know if there is a good Event plugin for this theme that’s also why.

Cheers,

Oh …!
yes, there is a really good event plugin … kind of the WooCeommerce of event plugins and it escapes me at the moment …

this is literally re event “calendars”
http://premium.wpmudev.org/blog/best-wordpress-event-and-calendars-plugins-reviewed/

but I think you want a custom post type like an “event post”
a friend is using this one I think
https://wordpress.org/plugins/events-manager/

or he has one from WPMU where he has the “all you can eat” membership plan for their stuff.

Not sure any of that helps.

We did that at http://www.cele.si, cause we are using posts as Events and post entry date is date of the event.

So we submit a post today and it will show tomorrows date. How? Use Post Scheduler with a feature “Post future posts now” 😉

Very nice plugin. In addition we use post expirator, and on that date, post goes to draft

Example:
http://www.cele.si/pink-floyd-show/
Pričetek is posts date “Published now”
Zaključek is Post Expirator plugin …

Thanks Chris!
I’m not looking for a calendar plugin but more of an event listing.

Still trying to find the best one that can be customized.

Thanks gregy1403,

I’m going to try and use this plugin right now and test it!

My buddy is using this one:

Is your buddy able to use Events manager on frontpage in blocks?

Hey Chris,

I used the Events Manager plugin you suggested and it works great on Google Chrome but for some reason changed when viewing it on Firefox.
Would this be an issue with the plugin itself for the Newsmag theme?

Hey gregy1403,

Thanks for suggesting the Post Date Scheduler. I might just use that instead of the Events Manager plugin since it seems more stable than using different event plugins.
