First off thank you for all those who contribute here. I have been able to troubleshoot multiple sites using this theme and encourage my clients to buy from you for the theme of choice during development.
That said I am about to undergo my largest Newspaper 6 project.

The goal is to move them to a theme with responsive features as well as ad control for mobile that is regularly updated. Newspaper 6 was the logical choice.
The next goal is to keep the look and feel on desktop as close as possible to what they have now.
Have a post style with text on the left and images on the right where the background of the text matches a color specific to a category
Each category also has an icon that appears above the text.
Menu items for the categories inherit the color as well.
My question is do you think Newspaper 6 is best suited for this, and can it do all these items?
Secondly from those who have moved from another theme to this one what issues do you expect I will encounter that I need to account for ahead of time?

Unfortunately you cannot replicate the current site with just the theme settings. It could be done but with custom work. If you know your way around php and css you can do it. Maybe you can find a few plugins to help out as well. Unfortunately there are features in the site we do not have options for. The header will be the hardest to replicate.
So if you start this project we can only help out so much, as custom work falls beyond what support can offer you.
