Will the mobile theme plugin be a good fix to help solve this problem? majority of users in my region use Opera Mini and I am loosing valuable traffic.

Unfortunately, the opera mini browser is not supported by the theme and also is not exists any plugins which allow you to use the theme with this browser, sorry!

One solution is to use a browser sniffer, along with the /AMP/ plugin from Automattic (the folks who make WordPress), and redirect Opera MINI users to the “amp” minimal mobile version of page.
