Sorry but smart list can only receive the smart list ads from the ads section of the theme panel: https://www.screencast.com/t/XPc2vGAK4Ulu
If you require other ad implementation you will have to do it custom in the theme files if you know your way around coding: https://www.screencast.com/t/hE3XgyEX4R
