You can edit the sprite file (using Photoshop or similar) and change the arrow color to red or something with more visibility – http://screencast.com/t/3Y0YxYMd0

Yes, you need to edit the page then the slide and add in the category filter the category ID you want to exclude with minus, like this: http://screencast.com/t/nB4ZadCY6Wib
