My home page includes a “Big Grid 1”
populated by Posts, by date and linked to the Posts.
I need the grid to be populated by either static images, that are linked to Pages,
or the Big Grid can call Pages instead of Posts
and display art in the same way inside the Big Grid 1 as a Post does with the Featured Image.

You can create pages and set a featured image to the page and them call pages in the big grid by changing the post type like so: http://screencast.com/t/872ukRWG
