few features missing from theme…
#2 option to include a link just below the advert image/banner… (Adverst contact page link )

#3 full search bar … expanded like most sites …

#4 different colours for menu …

#5 weather report … ( i know there are many widgets,,, but dont integrate with theme 🙁 … would be nice to have it right in top menu) like in this screenshot…

many updates … no new features …
more features = more happy buyers = more sales .. just like avada theme 🙂
thanks
Ironically, many of the theme updates are to fix issues with added features requested by users.
Disagree with some of these:
most people don’t look at weather on websites anymore since it’s on their cellphone. 5-10 years ago this was popular… now? Not so much.
If you have your breaking news on homepage, category page, tag, right side of each post, a news ticker now is a bit gimmicky unless you have breaking news every 5-10 minutes. 99% of major news portals no longer have this.
Full search bar – many people don’t search “on” the site anymore; and MOST designs for websites have gone to the search only appearing when clicked (NY Times, LA Times, etc.)
“Readers” start on home page. Anecdotal visitors come from search engine search, not from searching on site.
Just my thoughts. All of these “bloat” elements really slow down the site, page load, pagespeed, and most have to be removed for mobile, so, not super useful to most people.
Comments based on our news portals online 15 years, updated daily. Your mileage may vary.
PERSONALLY: I would like to see an update to ensure all the underlying elements are 100% up to date and 100% solid for a newspaper theme, and would like to see the author element on by default on post pages which is industry standard practice – this is more important to us than more bbpress, woocommerce, supermenus, etc. Speed, reliability, consistency.
I’m very happy the way the theme is right now, clean, professional and simple adding more things only put more weight on ur site and make it slow etc..
Why would any one want different colours for menu, that will not look professional are make the site easy on the eyes with a lot of different colors all over the place.
Breaking News ticker you can find a lot of plugins over @ wordpress that can do that.
Weather report come on if you need to check the weather google it are watch the weather channel..
The search bar is already a drop down where it take up less space why they want it bigger etc..
The reason i bought this theme is because it stand out on it’s own not with the same things other sites have, the team that make this theme done a very good job to make it different, clean, professional and simple.
I don’t run a news site so i really don’t care about those things, plus this is 2014 where mobile is taking over PC any way..all those things will not even be able to show on any mobile phone..this is not 2001 dude.
What feature i like too see is a dark skin so we have a choice to choose dark or white…
if you dont … then your reply

ruins the topic

Just my thoughts. All of these “bloat” elements really slow down the site, page load,
so does the ” tagDiv Social Counter ” … and many other features on this theme …
but since its a feature … there is an option to be turned on or off …
come on dude … the more features … the better :)) just look at ” avada ”
Hi,
@yoluca you can make most of your requests via CSS or using some plugins.
Thanks @Steven and @Christopher for the support.
Have a nice day all!
Hi, sorry … didn’t intend to start a roundtable… 😉
The different colors for menu choices isn’t a bad idea — some themes pull this from custom category color.
Note that some of the sites referenced, like “The Guardian” are *OLD* templates and not responsive and will likely soon be completely redesigned. Here is BETA of their new site:
http://www.theguardian.com/us?view=mobile# — note it is following the NEW thinking in search boxes (click, then search appears), being adopted on most major sites (at least here in the U.S. and U.K.). No multi-color menus, no weather boxes.
For the search box — one YES suggestion, would be option to have an entry box in the theme panel to swap out the maginifier CSS, to insert a Google Search service box, for those who wish to use Google for site search vs WordPress.
