Hi,
Individual posts settings don’t over-right the changes made for the featured image in Theme Settings. Even if one has chose to not show ‘featured’ image (due to saving bandwidth from loading images), when I chose any template from 1-5 it much over-ride the The Settings and show the Featured image.

Well… with some templates the only way to show a gigantic image at top outside the post is with a featured image …. so, maybe that is normal.

The theme panel > post settings > hide/show featured image option isn’t overridden by post template settings from post editing panel.
Please make sure you empty cache files after saving settings.
