Hey guys, I have the most recent version of Newspaper 4 and I recently tried upgrading to 6. I had to restore back to 4 because after running the script, I saw there was still quite a bit of customization work to do to get the site looking the way it’s supposed to.
So since it’s going to take a bit of effort either way, I’m debating between switching to Newsmag and customizing it versus upgrading to version 6 and taking the time to customize it.
Would very much appreciate anyone’s thoughts or experience regarding this. Thanks!
Ah so! Been there. Both require changing around some stuff. Kind of comes down to which look/feel you prefer. On the plus side it’s easier to upgrade and modify stuff for Newsmag from v4 and then perhaps later move to NP6 due to similarities in some of the codebase. Meaning, you’re going to have to redo your homepage either way, and reset sidebars, etc., redo some optimizations, font sizes/weights, etc.
I’d likely do Newsmag from NP4 as I did; then go from there. 🙂
Take a Sunday, put on some coffee/tea/red bull (whatever) and some nice music, and have at it. NM Much easier to use than NP4, in my lil’ ol’ opinion.

I went with NP6 due to not wanting to go back to the drawing board on redesigning many graphical elements that fit NP4. I have a feeling Newsmag is in our future though. One thing I need to do is find a solution for modifying a manually added width=”700″ on all our image tags in posts since Newsmag is narrower.
Once we do switch… do you think this guide will still be relevant if switching to NM from NP6?
