I just installed Newspaper 8.5 and when I click on Appearance – > Menus, I get a blank page.

That is unusual. Please check the theme system status and make modifications to the parameters mentioned in this guide

You can ask your hosting provider to make them for you, if needed. Also check if the mbstring PHP extension is available on the server

In some similar cases it’s absence caused blank dashboard pages. Additionally you could try as a test to deactivate all plugins except theme plugins, check if this has any effect. Let us know the results.
