I have finally made everything I wanted to, apart from archives. They weirdly show only 3 articles per page (which is a setting from homepage VC builder). Am I seriously blind or is there a way to change this?
Alternatively, is there a way to build a homepage using blocks without the need to have the latest articles at the bottom?

Not sure what you mean as the VC page builder can’t be used on archive pages. I have also checked your site and found that you have more that 3 posts on your archive page: http://screencast.com/t/cFMc2CCFaBe
You can chose the number of posts which appear on blog page/category pages/archive page.. from here: http://screencast.com/t/AzYuvDTe
Please let me know if you have managed so get this done.
For a homepage without the latest articles section you have to use the default page template or the page builder with title.
