I’ve followed your previous threads (liek here: http://screencast.com/t/l8NYfWQuYORD, tried out setting all numbers to 4) in order to have only one row (4 post thumbnails next to each other) appearing in the mega menu when hovering above the top-level category. Right now they are still 5 (which always opens up a second row for the fith thumbnail, building lots of white space beneath) – how can I reduce the number of thumbnails (no sub-catgories!) to 4?

I’m not sure why you get the white space in the mega-menu. Here is how it’s supposed to work: http://demo.tagdiv.com/newspaper/.
The limit is 4 if you have sub-categoriues and 5 if you don’t but there is no white space created anywhere.

Maybe you have customization in place that changes the width and does not allow enough space for the mega-menu.
If this is the case, please restore the theme to it’s default setting and check the menu again.
