Hey guys,
I have been working on a social sharing plugin for the Newspaper theme. Since the social sharing buttons that comes with the theme isn’t pretty great and all the other famous plugins are full of bloat-ware, I decided to make it as clean as possible.
So, I tried Bootstrap and Font Awesome to make the buttons. It worked properly but then I found out that the theme has custom version of Bootstrap, meaning that it conflicts with the stock-version of Bootstrap. Christopher,(the man who supports almost everyone at the forum ;)) suggested me to change the classes. So, I did but didn’t work.
Then I decided to move it to PureCSS and it worked. Here is how it looks like:

Features:
-
Its ridiculously responsive
WordPress 4.0 (just released) ready
Based on Font Awesome and PureCSS (faster loadtime)
Upcoming Features:
Share counts.
Yes, it is a lot like the RRSSB plugin but the plugin doesn’t play well with the Newspaper theme.
If you want, you can download my plugin from here.
I have added the plugin to WordPress.org and it is under review; I will update the thread as soon as it is approved.
P.S: TagDiv, if you think I am self-promoting, delete the thread but please don’t “ban” me. I just wanted to share it with the other users π
So what do you guys think?
Nice work! @mehedi
I had planned to do something like that for WP (for our WP sites, for same reason you did it) based on the work I did building that exact thing for our classic non-WP site … but ran out of time. Will try your plug when I circle back π
(example of my version running on our business site; not available as WP plugin, but same idea: http://www.send2press.com/services/press-release-distribution.shtml)
Thanks for the shout out, too. I won’t be helping out any more this month beyond bug report/fixes which I’m concentrating on now.
I’m now dealing with implementation of mod_spdy with mod_pagespeed to allow site to run under SSL for Google’s new push for that (super annoying). I’ll have some info on that once we suffer all the inevitable calamities of doing something only 10 people seem to know how to do (sigh … ask your hosting co about mod_spdy and watch their head explode). π
GREAT JOB!!!!
I gave up on that for two reasons; I used to think it was cool, but now I kind of think it’s a vanity thing where the site owner is more excited than the people visiting it. Second, it seems to be a resource hog since you need to go grab that info someplace either for every page view, or cache that stuff every hour, which means for a new post a new visitor wouldn’t see the shares anyway, such as coming from Google News when it’s “news.”
I never share something because others have, I share something because I like the post. SO, I guess if it floats your boat, I’d look at that other plugin we talked about a couple of weeks back which used to hook into the third party service, but now won’t … wait for his version, then look at the code to see how he does it. (That is what I’d do.)
Hi Mehedi,
Plugin looks cool but not in 1920×1080.

@Christopher, I added Share Count π Will update the plugin soon.
@Kacsa1337 Thanks for the info. I haven’t added support for big displays it but it won’t take long. So, I will update it asap with support for all display sizes π
thanks guys!
What Shashank and Dave said. I’d like to try this out. π
Any word on this, mehedi?
P.S. Looking at your live site again, minor CSS tweak suggestion:
.auhtor-twitter a {
display: block;
}
This may not be necessary but it just drives me crazy when there’s a small spot you can’t click between the icon and the text π
Hi guys π
I have submitted the plugin to CodeCanyon. I am not sure how long it is going to take for them to review it but I will keep you updated.
Also, how much shall it cost — I am not sure at all π
BTW, I have changed several things and the new version is live here.
What do you think? Suggestions?
Thanks!
Sorry. that was a wrong url..here is the correct one: http://dip223.com/shareit/
Looks good…
Any movement yet? π I’m trying to replace various Jetpack functions, and it’s hard to find a free sharing plugin quite as satisfying as yours…
Except maybe this… http://codecanyon.net/item/ultimate-social-deux/6556073 but the cost!
Ughhhh. Just received an e-mail from CodeCanyon Staff saying that they won’t approve the plugin unless I make it compatible with all the themes.
It was my fault π It works with all themes but I was silly and submitted it for the Newspaper them. Will resubmit tomorrow.
Sorry guys for the delay.
@TheMediumUTM there is another good one that you can use in the mean time and it’s FREE
