Older Safari issue?

Hello, our client showed us a screenshot of their Newspaper 7 theme (version 7.7c) website we created, where titles are displayed over the images, instead of under the images, using Flexblock 1.

We noticed that checking in Safari 9, there are no images at all to be seen.
Am I correct that this is an issue with older Safari versions?
Because using crossbrowsertesting.com to check on Safari 12, everything seems to be fine.
With what kind of safari releases is Newspaper 7 compatible?
