Open links in a new tab

In HispanicLA.com, using Newspaper 11, I’d like all the links to open in a new tab – especially external links – to reduce my alarmingly high bounce rate. I have many thousands of external links in the posts already and more added daily. To help with that I installed the plugin “Open External Links in a New Window” by WebFactory Ltd, but it didn’t work at all. Looking for clues in their support messages, I found that the plugin apparently does not work with “tagdiv post block”.
https://wordpress.org/support/topic/conflict-with-tagdiv-post-block-2/
The plugin author writes:
“From what I can tell the problem is that certain parts of the content are loaded via AJAX and not parsed by our plugin and then target=”_blank” is not added. You should contact theme support and ask them to add an option for opening links in a new tab.”
Is that so? What is the best way to open external links in a new tab automatically and not one by one in Newspaper?
Thank you!
G

Hello!

If you mean the links in an article content, then you can set it in Gutenberg.
Please let me know which links from where exactly.

Thank you!

Thank you for your reply, Bettina. Exactly. I am talking about links in the content. External links, that point to another site. And that open in a new tab (or window).
I was pointing to the claim by the plugin’s author that it does not work with Newspaper for technical reasons I copied for you and that I do not understand.
And I know I can do this manually, one by one. But I want it to be automatic and especially, convert all the external links in all the 3000 posts to open in a new tab.
Hope now it is clear.
Thank you
G

Hello!

Unfortunately, in our theme there are no settings to achieve that.

Thank you!

Thank you, Bettina. I’ve found another plugin, External Links – nofollow, noopener & new window, which does work with our theme.
