Hi, I’ve just installed Newsmag and I’m trying to get my page all setup. I’m having an issue setting up the homepage/static page on my site. The width of the boxed area of the page is not adjusting so that I can show the Big Grid with the big picture and the smaller pictures to the right. The smaller pictures are wrapping below it. I adopted the “Page builder + latest articles + pagination” template for my homepage design. and inserted the widgets in Visual Composer.
My page is http://www.fixthisbuildthat.com
Can you tell me how to increase the boxed width of the entire page? I have seen others using Newspaper and Newsmag that have a larger boxed size and the Big Grid works fine. I have not found the answer in the documentation or a cursory search of the forum.
thanks!
Brad
Hi,
Please use the full width row to display Big Grid and split the Slide row to 2/3+1/3. Here is an example: http://screencast.com/t/xrraDFgrtbYd

You can also install demo to make an idea how it works, but this will install new data (menu, posts, categories, pages) and it can be removed only manually: https://forum.tagdiv.com/installing-the-demo-data/
Let me know if you still have issues related to the theme.
Hope this helps!
Thank you for that! It works great now. I do still have a question about widening the page though. How can I make the entire boxed area wider? I am running at 1440×900 and the boxed area (total width of page) is much smaller than a similar site that is running Newspaper. How can I get my page to that width?
I now notice on the Newspaper demo that it is wider than the Newsmag demo. Is there a reason for this? I’d really like the extra width similar to Newspaper but like the Big Grid of Newsmag.
thanks!
Brad
Hi,
The newspaper theme was designed to be wider so while for newspaper the full width is around 1200px (more accurate 1170px) width the newsmag theme has it’s full width around 1000px (1021px).
Unfortunately the theme was initially designed at that width with an fixed grid layout and changing it would not be easy as it needs changing the width value for all elements on pages and for this you would need custom work as we don’t plan to make changes to the width so I’m afraid that a full width option will not be available.
Thanks!

Are the same elements available in the Newspaper theme? Specifically Big Grid? Alternatively, if I purchased both themes would there be a way to interchange elements between themes?
I assumed that the page width of Newsmag was going to adjustable because it is a responsive theme. The narrower width makes my logo extremely small when used with a header ad and I’m not happy with the outcome.
Please let me know what my options are.
thanks
Brad
Hi,
Unfortunately that is not possible. You can do it but by modifying the whole theme layout which is not an easy task and you need custom modifications for it. Sorry for inconvenience!
Like Alin stated above the Newsmag theme was designed with an fixed grid layout, responsive as it is fluid and style for desktop/tables/mobile screens.
If your issue is small logo you can change Header Style from Theme Panel > Header to show a full header logo:

Thanks!
Just a comment.
Note I bought both themes so I could try both ideas out and see which worked best.
Newspaper has the “wide layout” while Newsmag has a little narrower fixed layout and the next generation of TagDiv’s framework. The next version of Newspaper (5.0) this Spring will presumably still be wide screen/responsive, but will incorporate many of the coolness created for Newsmag.
They both use Visual Composer for the big grid stuff, but obviously they are different due to the different widths/height and structure of overall page for the various @media sizes.
The demos provide a good experience of the differences between the two themes “right now” … but the NEW version of Newspaper in near future will be very nice, based on imagining the best of both current versions. 🙂
@neotrope or the TagDiv guys. Is the new Newspaper 5.0 going to be a free upgrade if you purchase the current theme or is this going to be a whole new theme purchase?
TagDiv, also can I contact you through e-mail to discuss possible upgrade/transfer options to get what I need?
thanks!
