I don’t know why but today I checked one author profile on my website, when I clicked “Page-2” of the author page, it returned 404 error. Have a look : https://tomatoheart.com/webjockey/page/2/
I never tried to open page-2 of anything on my page before so, have no idea since when it’s happeing. I have done few .htaccess and functions.php editing based on various optimisation tips available in the community.
What can be the reason behind this.

I have inspected your link and I have noticed that it is not correct generated. Please try to re-save your permalinks, clear all your caches and test it again. I have checked another author from your page and I saw that the pagination working fine. The right URL should be like this -> https://tomatoheart.com/author/webjockey/page/2/

I get it. In fact, I had manually typed https://tomatoheart.com/webjockey/ and found it’s working..but when I went to page two, it was not working. I thought it’s an issue… but perhaps it’s not. The generated author profile link is https://tomatoheart.com/author/webjockey/ ( as you wrote) and all pagination is working very well there.
