When I try to upload pdfs to the media library, it doesn’t work. The file appears to be there, but there’s a placeholder image in the media library, and if you to the attachment page, it’s blank.

You should be able to upload a pdf file in media library as this type of file is supported by wordpress – https://codex.wordpress.org/Uploading_Files The theme doesn’t have an option to display pdf files in browser, you can only upload a pdf file like an attachment and the user can download it. You could try the method provided in this topic – https://forum.tagdiv.com/topic/how-to-show-pdf-content-on-site/ and see if it works for you. Please correct me if I misunderstood your problem.

Ah OK. I wasn’t trying to display them, just link to them, but I was thrown off by the pdfs not getting thumbnail previews in the media library, so it looks like they’re not properly loaded. But it does seem to work if you link to the custom url and not the media file. Thanks.
