I am trying to use PHP 7.0.6 but get a message with Database error.

Hi,
The latest version of the theme supports PHP versions up to 7.1. So there should not be any problems in this matter. Maybe keep using the version that worked previously, and create a testing environment with a fresh theme install, only with theme plugins and test to see if everything works properly.
Also check if the wp-debug is set to false
