Possible Bug: Only Admins Can View "Post Settings" in Editor

I run a multi-author blog and it has recently come to my attention that any writer who isn’t an “Admin” cannot view the “Post Settings” section that shows below the editor box. (The area where you select a Primary category, input a subtitle, manage the smartlist theme, etc.)

One of my writers told me that he was unable to view those settings today, and he’s been able to view them before. I’m assuming that he hasn’t been able to see them since we upgraded to the 7.3 theme. Before then, he tells me he was able to see it. I know this because I’ve been having to select “Primary” categories for a lot of our writers for the past few weeks, and I assumed that everyone was just being forgetful and rushing to submit posts.

I was able to log into his account (and other accounts who aren’t Admins) and I was able to replicate the issue. If I log into an account that is a WordPress Admin, I can see the settings just fine. I’ve tried to login as an Editor, Contributor and an Author, and I’m still unable to see the post settings.

This is what I see as an admin:

This is what editors, authors and contributors see:

Also, to reiterate my point, I cannot even see the option of “Post Settings” in the screen options pulldown tab at the top of the post editor page:

Can someone else see if they can replicate this issue on their end?

Had this happen on a site using ACF, different theme; as ACF has option to “hide” some of the post page settings, and broke the custom stuff, until I unchecked some stuff on the ACF “who can see custom fields” settings.

Not sure if your issue, but possible.

Maybe not. Just a thought 🙂

Hello,

I have tested the post settings and there is no issue with them. Please disable all plugins except visual composer, clear cache and reset cdn files if you use it.
Then test again.

Thank you!

Hi Bogdan,

I have disabled every single plugin (except Visual Composer) and the post settings still don’t show up for non-admins. If possible, I can send you login credentials to our “staging” site so that you can see for yourself.
