On the homepage here – http://www.si.com/ – note the grid in the center at the top of the page featuring one primary story with a photo and two stories with photos beneath.
How difficult would it be to modify one of the grids to do something similar? I don’t see an existing option that would display three stories in this manner.

Unfortunately the our theme does not have an exact replica of that grid. You can check different big grid styles here: http://demo.tagdiv.com/newspaper/big-grid-1/
If none of the grids we provide are sufficient for your project, you can create new ones if you have the proper coding skills. It will be no easy task though: https://forum.tagdiv.com/api-blocks-introduction/
