Hi there! I upgraded Newspaper Theme from 7 to 12.1.1 and the “Post Settings” area disappeared for all users who aren’t admins on my website.

How do I reactivate it?

Hello,

Please activate the tagdiv Standard Pack plugin.

Thank you!

Hi there, Anamaria.
The plugin is active but the “Post Settings” area still doesn’t appear to our colaborators.

Should I try anything else?

Hello,

Please provide some screenshots.
A solution for sending a screenshot/video is this:
Download, capture, and send: https://www.techsmith.com/jing-tool.html
After making the screenshot, you will have a link; paste it here.

Thank you!

Hello Anamaria!

We see on plugins files some restrictions to this section (“Post Settings”), the specific file that controls this functionality is “/wp-content/plugins/td-composer/legacy/common/wp_booster/wp-admin/content-metaboxes/td_templates_settings.php”, we changed line 75 where the code limits the permission level to see and edit this field in question if ( current_user_can('publish_post') ). We saw that wordpress users who are contributors do not have the permission specified in the code, we changed the code to if ( current_user_can('edit_posts') ), but this may have caused a certain instability in the database. Is there another alternative to be able to display the options other than the one I mentioned? https://drive.google.com/file/d/1v1ws-JwJ_rb2ILtnY2IjPlwHtV8sLjj4/view?usp=sharing -> print with an example of the functionality in question

Hello,

To have that section, please ensure you have the latest theme version. There was some issue with WordPress 6.1.1.

Thank you

We updated to the latest version of the theme in a separate environment and running the Newspaper in version 12.2 and WordPress 5.7.1 we still don’t see the option when editing the post. The plugin code responsible for displaying this field is basically the same, I believe it is not an update issue, but the type of permission required in this version where the necessary capabilities do not satisfy the user with the collaborator role, in the theme code it is described that to be able to view the options it is necessary to have the ability to publish posts and if we are going to see the capabilities of the collaborator type users we see that it does not have “publish_posts” permission (https://wordpress.org/support/article/roles -and-capabilities/#contributor), for this reason I changed the source code so that the field appears for people with the “Contributor” role, can you help us find an alternative so that it is not necessary to change the file that controls this permission in specific?

Hello @r4you,

I’m sorry; I misunderstood what you meant.
I initially thought it was a problem when the post settings were not displayed for any role, that it was a problem.
But now I understand that you mean that this section for contributors does not appear; we changed that it was still requested that this section not be displayed because the administrators wanted to assign the templates themselves. This section is displayed for the admin and editor.
If you want contributors to have access, then you should make the change in the code.

Thank you!

We made this change, but we noticed a certain instability in the database, is there any other way to make the “Post Settings” available to people with the “contributor” permission?

Hello,

Unfortunately, no.
The contributors should have permission to see the Post Settings.

Thank you!
