i don’t understand how this works. the number of likes shown in the post seems to have no relation to the number of likes shown on facebook. when people like in the post, is it meant to get carried through to fb, or is the number of likes on fb meant to be reflected in the number shown on the counter in the post. or both?

Hi,
That button is created according to the official Facebook documentation
– https://developers.facebook.com/docs/plugins/like-button
It will count likes received on the post page, and it should also take into account likes received when sharing the post on Facebook. That would be the purpose of this button.
