At the moment that is not possible. The post content width is fixed. A sidebar can be set left or right, or no sidebar. If there is no sidebar the post content will occupy the full theme width

In coming updates this will change, there will be a considerable amount of flexibility added to the way post pages are created. Something like this will be possible in this case. But for the moment there is no setting to modify the post width.

@andyfirthuk Seems you do not use a sidebar. If a sidebar is not used, the post content will occupy the whole width of the theme. When you set a sidebar left or right, it will be limited like so

You could also not set a sidebar, and reduce the post content by adding text padding

I would like the default post width to be narrower, about 650px. So it’s easier for users to read.
Currently the post does not have side bar, and it looks like this:

You have said that this is only achievable by text padding in the edit post screen, but this may change in the coming updates to have more flexible to modify post width. I have Newspaper 8.8. In the updated Newspaper 9.0, could I modify the default post width to narrower width?

@dia-C The width of the post content container is 696px, you could narrow the post content down with the text padding option (per post)

So if I understand correctly you want to decrease the post width, if is so then you can achieve thus using a single post template from tagDiv Cloud Library and edit it with tagDiv Composer, in this way, you can decrease the site content width, setting on each row the width that you need and set margin left and right auto, for post, for example set 900px width like this https://www.screencast.com/t/HbTTJTAciSEH after that, set the template on posts ( individual or global in theme panel ) and all post will have the 900px width.
