I’ve set the primary tag on the post but it’s being ignored on the front end, what am I doing wrong?
As you can see below, I’ve set the primary category to News, but on the front end it’s Community which is a sub cat of News

I’m confused, what’s the difference between setting the Primary category under Categories v.s. Post Settings?
I’ll need to explain this extra step to my clients so it would be good to know the answer.

This is mentioned in the guide posted above. One option comes from the theme while the other comes from seo by yoast.
This option comes from the SEO plugin: http://i.share.pho.to/00f22210_o.png
That will not affect anything else besides the permalink I think.
The option to change the category tag, the post sidebar or background grabbed from the primary category is the one in post settings under the tiny mce editor.
