Problem with Block 3

Hi,

I have Block 3 on my homepage (http://churchandstate.org.uk). Since I updated the theme, the last 2 images (sometimes even 4) are not being displayed. This only happens in Firefox; in Chrome or IE the images are displaying just fine. Obviously if I edit the article and upload the same image again, the problem goes away. In my local installation I have the same problem, with or without plugins.

These are just two examples:

What should I do?

Hi,

So the problem is happening only in Firefox? Because I checked with it, all the images seem to load fine for me – http://prntscr.com/nmqrx1 I refreshed the page multiple times.
I use this version of Firefox – http://prntscr.com/nmqttg

Maybe try and clear the cache of the browser and check again. Or check in a different computer if possible.

Thanks

I have the latest version of Firefox. And now I have four missing images. I get the same result when I open the page in “New Private Window”. As I said this didn’t happen with the version of the theme I was using. Only after I updated.

In fact I checked my smartphone, this time in Chrome and the images are not coming up either. It is the last four, so it would appear there is some bug or something.

I have now installed Firefox in my smartphone and the four images are also missing. So it’s not just my browser.

I have made some screenshots so you can see. The first is what you see in Chrome, and the second is from Firefox. I have checked my tablet and we have the same problem.

So I have checked my tablet again. It seems the tablet is fine, both Firefox and Chrome.

Hi, Any help?

Hi,

Maybe it is happening because of browser cache, I checked again with desktop Firefox
http://prntscr.com/noralyhttp://prntscr.com/norar2http://prntscr.com/noraup
And mobile Firefox – http://prntscr.com/norcog
Try to clear the cache of the browsers you are testing with, then check if it works the same for you.

Hi,

Sorry for all the trouble I caused. This morning I discovered that the problem is that the new version of the theme is using 533×261 for block 3. And some years ago I deleted images with those specifications from the server because I didn’t need them.

Perhaps you can address that in future releases of the theme. My old theme was using the correct images for block 3!

Hi,

As far as I know block 3 has always used module 1 – https://forum.tagdiv.com/theme-blocks-modules/
Module 1 requires this thumbnail size – http://prntscr.com/np90m0 If this size is not enabled there should be a placeholder image – http://prntscr.com/np91io
If I misunderstand please let me know.

Thanks

This is what is happening. Block 3 when seen with Firefox is using 533×261 as images. While Chrome is using the correct specification 324×160. The reason the photos are not appearing in Firefox (unless I upload them again which is what I’m doing) is because some years ago I deleted hundreds of 533×261 from the server. This was not happening with the version of the theme I previously had.

533×261 in Firefox:
16-5-firefox

324×160 in Chrome:
16-5-chrome

Maybe I am misunderstanding something. Modules will use the same thumbnail size across all browsers. Unless retina thumbnails are enabled, then these will be displayed when needed (retina devices).

So the module 1 (from block 3) will load the 324×160 thumbnail size on Chrome
http://prntscr.com/npo1p6
And on Firefox – http://prntscr.com/npo22p
This can be checked with the browser inspector. From what I can see the block display just fine on both Chrome and Firefox, and I can’t see any issues with the thumbnails of block 3 in the website at this moment, or previously.

Not on my Firefox for instance!! On my Firefox block 3 is using 533×261.

I see that image size in the srcset – http://prntscr.com/nrrde2 From what I can find browsers can choose what image to load – https://www.ostraining.com/blog/wordpress/scrset/

But for me it always loads the appropriate image size, which I mentioned above. I can’t say exactly why is this happening for you, or what could be done about it.
