I apologize if this is a very basic question but I’ve been driving myself crazy trying to figure it out for the past two days. I figured I would just stop and ask at this point in the hopes that somebody can help me. With any luck, the solution is something simple that I have book overlooking.
I’m setting up a new blog and it is my first time using Newspaper. When setting the featured image for posts, I am using as big as images as I can think to use so that they won’t need to scale up to cover any of the possible thumbnail sizes.
Yet as you can see here – http://i45.photobucket.com/albums/f54/Sims4Sarah/bloghelp1_zpsei3uuxin.jpg – I am still ending up with random grey space. Often, it is in the big grid headers but not always. It can be in the thumbs of the lower units too.
I don’t know what I am doing wrong. I’m putting it in the featured space on each post – http://i45.photobucket.com/albums/f54/Sims4Sarah/bloghelp2_zpsss8nmwzr.jpg and I have been experimenting with larger and larger dimensions in hopes that I’ll hit on a magic size that means I don’t have the problem any more (I installed Force Regenerate Thumbnails and ran it each time I replaced with a new size) but nothing is working.
Here is an example of a featured image size on a recent post entry – http://i45.photobucket.com/albums/f54/Sims4Sarah/bloghelp3_zpsfviucxpy.jpg
What am I doing wrong? I have all of the thumb sizes still switched to ‘blue’ in the theme panel block settings, if that matters.
Hi,
Please regenerate your thumbnails using this – https://forum.tagdiv.com/thumbnails-fix-strange-looking-images-on-blocks/ and if you use Photon module from Jetpack please disable it.
Let us know how it goes and provide your site url so we can check this if the issue persist.
Thanks!
Hi Alin,
I had read that before and tried the regeneration but it didn’t work. Nonetheless, I tried again this time just to make sure and it still didn’t work. I do have Jetpack installed but I’m not using Photon.
The blog is at http://blog.samys.com/
This shows what I have on in Jetpack

and this shows which other plugins I have activated in general

Hello,
Please make sure you have the thumbnails activated here: http://screencast.com/t/DwbyffFu otherwise the theme will use the full image instead of a thumbnail and problems such as yours can appear. (you will have to regenerate thumbs again if options are changed in the menu exemplified)
Thank you!
Hello,
It seems your thumbnails are up and running now on your website so it could have been your cache that delayed the thumbs. http://screencast.com/t/YgSDVfTO7sI
If you require further assistance please let us know.
Thank you!
Hi. Thank you for your help. I had been doing everything properly but at some point I had an ‘Eureka’ moment and it dawned on me that it was likely an error with our hosting the was preventing the created thumbnails from writing to to server. So, in reality, it was pulling everything from that one featured image. I contacted our support and they did something with Apache and suddenly it all worked. I guess, I at least know I wasn’t completely insane and was doing through the right motions. 🙂
