Problems with Home Page in Cache

Hi, hope you can help!

Since earlier in the week (October 12th), our Home Page keeps showing the same version, despite the daily news updates.

All the other section and article pages will show current, and sometimes if we go from a current page to the Home Page it will present the current version. But then later it reverts back to the Oct 12 version.

We’ve cleared our browser cache, used incognito, installed an entirely new browser (Opera), and regularly are seeing the Home Page cached form Oct 12.

On Firefox it seems okay, and on mobile iPhone Safari it will show the current site (although delayed an hour or so), but desktop Safari is the always showing the old Oct 12 version.

Chrome is intermittent depending on what we are doing for new Post publishing, so if we make a change to the Home page color scheme for example it will show, but only 30 minutes or so.

We’ve installed and uninstalled WP Super Cache several times in the last week, deleting all files. Currently there is no cache plug in on the site.

We’ve called our hosting company GoDaddy 3-4 times, they insist our shared hosting environment has no server-side caching.

When we add /?nocache=1 to the web address it will show the current Home Page from today. But clicking back to the Home Page serves up the old Oct 12 version.

We have a Dev version of the site in a sub directory and that testing seems to show it serves the current page.

Our thought is maybe there is something in the route directory that was reverted/changed (we’ve had a lot of problems in the last couple months) to no Cache Control as intended, but not sure how to fix that.

Any suggestions, can someone help us solve this?

Hi,

That is an unusual problem. If there is no caching then the homepage and website should display the changes and modifications immediately, on all browsers. There should be no, or minor delay.
That kind of problems are usually caused by a form of caching

The general issue you are describing seems to be with the homepage content. Try inspecting this page, check the blocks and grids settings. Specially the filtering and sorting.
If you could provide a link to your website we will inspect it, and see what it displays.

Thanks

Hi good morning,

This problem has coincided with a ~50% drop in web traffic, and also a drop in our SEO ranking for deep pages, which may not be related.

At any rate, one problem at a time. The URL is http://www.riotimesonline.com, and if you contact me directly it would be great have your help looking at the code and content.

Please email me at publisher@riotimesonline.com, thank you!

Hi Simion,

While looking into our SEO issue I see the XML sitemap is not working, when we create it using All-in-One SEO or XML Sitemap we are getting this error.:

—–
This page contains the following errors:

error on line 2 at column 1: Extra content at the end of the document
Below is a rendering of the page up to the first error.
—–

Can someone on the team there get in contact asap? I’m not sure it is related to the Cache problem we are seeing but my sense is it might be and would like a to hire you to review the site.

Thanks

Hi,

For me the website seems to display the latest version at the moment
https://www.screencast.com/t/FU31saVWSK
https://www.screencast.com/t/vHgWBCL5gB
I don’t see any problem with the website, browsing the homepage, category pages and posts. The displayed posts are as late as Oct 20 and the grid and block filtering seems to work properly.
Regarding the sitemap issue, try using the Yoast SEO plugin, and configure the sitemap again
https://kb.yoast.com/kb/enable-xml-sitemaps-in-the-wordpress-seo-plugin/
https://yoast.com/what-is-an-xml-sitemap-and-why-should-you-have-one/
https://kb.yoast.com/kb/how-to-customize-the-sitemap-index/
https://kb.yoast.com/kb/submit-sitemap-search-engines/
The theme does not have any setting or options concerning SEO pr sitemaps, everything has to be done through a plugin. We don’t have an optimization or website review department. Try the Yoast plugin, enable and customize the sitemap if needed, then submit it and check the results.

Thanks

It was a problem with the hosting company (GoDaddy) after all.
