I have a question regarding the implementation of a directory.
I’m hoping to implement a business directory (my site is about home improvement and I’d like to include a business directory in the newspaper theme), and I’d like to know if that is a function you guys will be implementing one day in Newspaper ? Would this happen in a future update or not at all?
Otherwise I found that plugin http://codecanyon.net/item/sabai-directory-plugin-for-wordpress/4505485 and would know by any chance if this one has already been tested newspaper theme?

Unfortunately it is hard to say which option gets implemented in the next update because we have hundreds of suggestions and requests and the developer has the final word on what makes it in the next update. We cannot say if this option will be present or not in our future updates but i will add it to our suggestion list.
As for the plugin, we have not tested it and do not know if it will work properly with our theme or not. You can maybe find a free one to test out and see how it goes.(something like https://wordpress.org/plugins/business-directory-plugin/)

I finally purchased the Directory 2.0: http://codecanyon.net/item/web-20-directory-plugin-for-wordpress/6463373
It’s a great directory, very complete, and it integrates perfectly with Newspaper theme. You really don’t need to integrate your own directory as this one is excellent.
However I’ve got one issue and it’s a pretty important actually. The directory comes with widgets that we can put in the sidebar. We can thus put in listings, categories etc..
Unfortunately I can’t get these widgets to appear on the Newspaper theme. I made a video to show you.
First seconds is the plugin example, where you see how it should look with the sidebar. Then on to my website where nothing appears : http://screencast.com/t/o2ecZ8DKpa9
I would love to find the bug as without the widget working the directory does not have enough interest for me.

Following my message yesterday I can see that no pages can display the widgets in side bar such as http://www.consobrico.com/contactez-nous-3/.. but I have a hard time finding the problem.

Sorry for the delay,
Unfortunately we cannot assure it’s functionality with our theme as we have not tested the plugin. You can use a bit of trial and error and check different options to get it working. You can try shortcodes in a textbox (in widgets area) or raw html/JS element (on pages) to see if it will show up. Another thing you can try is to see if it does not create a conflict with other plugins. Try it with just visual composer active and disable the rest of the plugins.
Sorry, but we have no idea of the plugin implementation and cannot make a statement on it.

The default page template does not show the sidebar.If you use this template, you have to create your sidebar on the page using a 2/3 – 1/3 layout. Please use a different page template from the 3 available: http://screencast.com/t/ZsIXkI28KN and the sidebar will show up.
