Hi guys,
I would like to redirect some of the tag urls to woocommerce product categories. I’m using the plugin Redirection by John Godley for the purpose.
Once I do the redirect and load the redirected url in my browser, the page is being redirected properly. Redirect checker shows 301 correctly, but when I click the tag from a post page (the tags at the end of the articles), the old url appears, no redirection. If I do a refresh of the page, still the old url is shown. The redirection happens once I select the address in the url field and press Enter.
I don’t think this is caused by the plugin.
How can I fix this behavior? I need to redirect the visitors to the new pages when they click on the tags urls.
Note: only certain tag urls are redirected, not all tags on the page.

The redirect should work with a redirect plugin, if you redirect the tag URL to the URL you want

I have tried the same plugin and redirected a post tag to a product page

When that tag is clicked in the post (you have to click on the link and the redirect should happen) it redirects to the product page for example

Maybe try to clear the caching and check the results.

I had no problem redirecting a tag link from the post as it is basically a simple link, to any URL.

Please provide your website URL so I can take a closer look at your tags. First of all, please make sure that you are not using some untested plugins which can interact with the theme core files and causes a lot of unknown issues.

Unfortunately, I cannot recreate your issues, sorry! Please keep in mind that all of the redirects do not come from our theme, sorry! most likely, all of these comes from your customizations, untested plugins or something like this, sorry! Also, I have checked your source page and I saw that you are using some untested plugins which can interact with the theme core files and causes a lot of unknown issues. Try to disable all of these, leave just only the plugins that come bundled with the theme core files and check the results. Also, you should revert the theme to the default state and switch it to the main theme, clear all the caches and check the results.

I made a further redirection and now an online redirect checker should show a 301 redirect. However I’m not redirected when I click on the tag in question from the post in question. Please check again and let me know if you can help.

there’s no caching plugin or similar. Did you test with online redirect checker? What is the result? When you click on the tag and the page loads, then please click within the browser url filed and press Enter. What happens?

Please try another redirect plugin as it seems the one you are using is not working properly. The theme is not compatible with all plugins out there so when you experience something wrong with a plugin such as the error you mention, simply start searching for another one. You can also make redirects directly in htaccess so you do not have to use any plugin at all:

In fact, all already made redirects function properly. If I make a new redirect, it works properly.
If you put the test link directly in your browser url field and load it, you will be properly redirected. But when you click the tag element, you aren’t redirected.
The link I gave you for tests is now correctly redirected using 301 redirect to the desired url. Can you deny it?
I don’t think that the problem is with the plugin. I really hoped to be able to fix this with your support.
I made a lot of custom redirects during the years using the Redirection plugin.
I’m afraid that I will get in a trouble if I remove it….

I understand the situation but it may be tied to the way the link is grabbed for the tags when you click on them. This function grabs the tag and shows it on the post: https://www.screencast.com/t/obggMAriP
I have made a test using the redirection plugin like so: https://www.screencast.com/t/or1yOXFv
And when clicking on a tag, it redirects too the link I added without issues. No matter if I paste the tag link in the URL or click the tag itself. Your issue could be caused by something else besides the theme as it runs fine on our end.
