Hello,
lots of posts, which are declared featured, don’t show related content (only other posts having “featured” as additional category). Isn’t it possible to take the data from the primary category and not “featured” if you decide to choose one?
Showing proper related content is important according to the quality rating guidelines of Google.

You can try to exclude the featured category like this: http://screencast.com/t/Pbnml6K170
Here is the code td_module_blog.php file : 'category__not_in' => add your featured category here
