Is it possible to use “Relevanssi” search plugin for theme search to use? I tried using it but no search results were displayed. Maybe I am doing something wrong. Please try let me know. If it doesnt work, what could be the reason of not working as it works fine with default WordPress search.

Try Super Speedy Search, I use it on a site with 500k posts and works amazingly. Highly recommend it to everyone.

I believe it can, you can try to contact their support – they helped me a lot on my website and I will write a whole post about what they did for me. Now they are helping me fix slow queries on my site to make it really fast because it is a large website. I really recommend their plugins!
I had a chat with their developer and he said that they can add index of pdf files if needed. They just need to know what you need whether it is to show the pdf as a file or a post where the pdf is attached to.

It’s good to show in the results the title of the pdf contains what was searched for and in excerpt it can show 15 words before the term and after.
