Reposting articles to social media images

Hello,

I am having a issue when trying to repost my articles to social media. On the article post page I select a social media I want to re-post to. 50% of the time it will not have the correct image loaded in the re-post. Can you help me with this? Below is an example of an article that is affected.

Your help is much appreciated! This is very annoying 🙂

HI,
usually most social media will pull from your meta tags which is usually the featured image for page; most will only use JPEG or PNG images, not GIFs since those are not technically a photo and more often used for ads (put another way some social media SHOULD grab animated GIFS but don’t do so consistently!).

So, on your page you have no images for story on page, only a video, and the OG tags show this:
<meta property="og:image" content="http://thegeeze.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/05/Ibrahim-Hamato-Nothing-is-Impossible.gif" />

Which is an animated GIF from the video.

Most social media will
1) look for compatible open graph and meta image specified
2) image in post
3) images on page, such as logo or banner ad, if they can’t grab another image

But upshot … it’s sometimes hit or miss what image social media will pull. Twitter has become the best at this, and most of the time G+, but Facebook is really a dog’s breakfast.

You have no 100% consistent way to control images served to social media.

Often if you submit the link manually, you may have option to use < > arrows to select the image you want (Linked IN, and Facebook often work properly in this way). Sharing from buttons is *always* a little hit or miss.

@5ud050n

I manage a dozen 10+ year old news portals that get updated every day. I suffer most of these evils on a daily basis, sadly. 🙂

I finally fix this issue but I still have to do some live testing. If the post is with the featured image hidden (or video post format), the theme adds the meta tag.

The update will be out next week.

Again to all:
this is an ongoing issue with FACEBOOK, and NOT the theme, OG tags, or WordPress, or your website.

FACEBOOK has a problem with images due to the vast amount of image content they are having posted at each second, minute and hour EVERY day.

Twitter, G+ and Pinterest are better. Twitter is usually spot on. Pinterest most of the time. G+ sometimes confused – not all of their stuff actually works 24/7, as you may know from experience of 503 errors and such.
