Hi Guys,
I’m sure I am not alone when I say that a lot of the features of Newspaper 9 are great – and as soon as you can sort out the Child theme functionality it will make the management a lot easier.
However, I am sure I am also not alone when it comes to a major shortfall in the support for customisation of blocks. Blocks 9 and 10 are a traditional news snippet style, and the flexibility of the Flex blocks is also good.
However, I would like to request a detailed tutorial that shows how to replicate these blocks. The tutorial here, https://forum.tagdiv.com/developer-info/ is not of any use to someone who wants looping or to have two versions of the same block where one shows tags – courtesy of custom code – and the other doesn’t. I want to have the option to play with the page view at the design level.
Please, please, please can we get a tutorial that addresses this issue.
Thanks in advance.
Gary
Hi,
That is true, the guide doesn’t actually show how to create a block replica and customize it if needed. I will make a note of it and add it on the list, it would indeed be helpful in such a situation to have this in the guide.
The blocks and modules can now be used in a child theme, after the latest update. There are still a few quirks with the child theme but they will be solved as quickly as possible.
Thank you for your suggestions.
Hi Simon
That is indeed great news and thanks for taking the suggestion on board. The proposed guide will absolutely blow open the creative possibilities, particularly for those who don’t have the coding skills to dig deep into the php and CSS to write new code from scratch.
Also, great news about the Child theme. I am running 9.7.2 so I presume the child theme will work with this, save the few quirks you mentioned.
Best

Hi,
The child theme was limited after the 9.7 update, but now in the 9.7.4 update it has been greatly improved in terms of functionality. Post templates, blocks, modules, header templates, category templates etc can now be modified in the child theme.
In the coming update we will fix some issues with the child theme, this should be released this week from what I know. Please let me know if you have questions.
Thanks
