Request: random posts from latest x

Hi,

For this newspaper site, I want the blocks on the front page to show only the latest 11 posts in a certain category, but in a random order. I can’t set them to “latest”, because then the posts will always be in the same order. I can’t set them to “random posts from last 7 days”, because although there are updates mostly every week, it’s not active in the summer or on holiday weeks, so it would be blank at those times. Should I just clear out this featured category regularly so it always has at least, but not more than, 11 or so? Otherwise this would be a very useful feature.

P.S. Similarly, right now I’m organizing the homepage as a large featured area on top, then individual category blocks scrolling beneath that. I don’t care if the posts are unique between the featured area and the individual category blocks. But if I want to have two different blocks making up that featured area, I do care if the articles unique within those. I can’t use offset if I set it to random, and I can’t use unique because that would affect the whole page. So another feature request would be to have articles be unique between a given set of blocks… 🙂

Hi,

For the first matter you can chose the post you want to show and add them using the “Filter by tag slug” feature, so you can add the post you want from a certain category and set them to “random”.
You can chose a specify tag to do this, “category 1” for example and add it at those post you want to add and each time you want to add a new post add this tag to it.

For the second you could use the same “Filter by tag slug” feature and set different tags, specific tags for the post you want in the first block and another for the tag you want in the other block so this way you can control the post which appear in those block and will be unique.

Hope this helps!
Thanks
