Request: Turn ads off per post/category

Hello,

I have a request I’d really like to see in the next Newspaper update (or guidance on how to hardcode it myself) please:

I would like the ability to turn off the adverts (in the textareas in Theme Panel) on certain posts, and even categories. Basically just so that they don’t appear on specified posts/cats, as I don’t want them appearing on our posts we do for charity.

Many thanks,

Max

You can do this without changing any code. First create the categories. Then load up the theme panel and under layout settings, click on category. Open the newly created category where it is CUSTOM SIDEBAR + POSITION set that to full width (the third icon from the left)

now in the post with that category, you don’t get a side bar. If you are doing article inline ads, article footers, header ads, then you need to turn that function off and manually add them to the posts, that gets the ads.

It’s possible to create a function that uses the meta in the custom fields to hide ads per post. I posted this question today in another thread, because i dont know which meta to be used and how to construct the function, but it certainly is possible. I’ll keep you posted when I get an answer!

hi,
have you tried the icecodepro solution , seems ok.

another solution wold be to create a sidebar only for that particularly category and add a text widget from the widgets area, then ad your ad code there. in this way the sidebar you created will be displayed only in that particularly category.

Thanks for you message.
