I have sorted it out using regular wp plugin install option, uploading plugin zip from the local dump.
I guess the issue was with hosting permissions, as it gave an error saying could not connect to the host… if that makes sense!

Yes manually installing the plugins from Newspaper/includes/plugins will solve most issues with the auto installer.
Hi. I recently purchased the newspaper wordpress theme. I think I am having problems with permissions as I can’t install any of the recommended plugins for the theme =( I’ve tried exploring / reading up on changing permissions but I guess I must be missing something still. Would very much appreciate any assistance I could get. Thank you!
