Running on old version of theme

Hi.
I’m running on a 4-year-old version of the Newspaper theme (8) and with the latest version of WordPress, I get an error message when trying to post. I know my days with the old theme are numbered. But when I attempted to update to the latest version of Newspaper today, it was basically like building the site from scratch – everything was gone, posts looked horrible, fonts, widgets, picture locations had all changed. I really like the current appearance of my site and am really just looking for a work-around to keep it as is – if there is one. Or is there at least a slightly more headache-free means to do this? Would a gradual theme update be less painful? My site is large (42GB) and high traffic (1.5K users/a day) and I’m really hoping to minimize downtime.
In case you can’t tell, my knowledge on this topic is minimal.

After updating the Newspaper theme, install and activate tagDiv Standard Pack and tagDiv Composer. This will keep your old design working.

Optional: Then you can start building/redesigning your website templates using tagDiv Cloud Library. Once you’re done with all required templates creation. You can enable them from the theme panel and choose to deactivate tagDiv Standard Pack plugin and optimize your website for better speed and performance.

P.S. If you are using a child theme, you need to update it as well. (especially functions.php file)

I hope you will find this helpful.
