Hi,
Updated my site to v 9.7.4, and have issues with the Search function.
I installed a Directory Listings Plugin and an Events Listing plugin months ago, and before the update, the search results picked up listings and events as well as posts from the main theme used.
Since the update, searching on a keyword/text doesn’t bring up any of the directory listings (only posts/events).
Is this is likely to be an issue with the theme since the update?
Is there anything I can tweak in the admin area to make it work as before?
To anyone from tagDiv or the wider community, if this can’t be resolved, can anyone recommend a reliable WP Search plugin?
Thanks
Ian
Hi,
From what theme version did you update? There were some changes in the theme a while back, in update 9.7 – https://tagdiv.com/updating-the-core-of-tagdiv-themes/ and most of the theme files were moved in the composer.
But this should’t affect a search plugin, which searches in the database for results. Does that plugin work correctly with a different theme, maybe a default one?
There are other search plugins out there, you could also try a different one, test free ones if possible – https://colorlib.com/wp/search-plugins-for-wordpress/
Thanks
Hi Simion,
Thanks for your reply.
We had previously updated the site to V9.7.3 as per tagDiv’s guidance. Everything worked fine. The search worked fine. Only once we updated to v9.7.4 did we have the issue.
Am getting the authors of the Directory Listings plugin to check the effectiveness of their plugin when it comes to the search side of things.
Thanks for your info about other search plugins.
Regards
Ian
Hi Simion
Just an update on my previous message to you re the Search functions.
I am now also unable to use the Search facility in the admin area in relation to:
– the Media Library and the Listings.
Searching for specific images in the Media Gallery results in ‘No Media Files Found’
Searching using keywords/categories in the Listings now results in a display of posts based on the keywords and not relevant listings.
I have another website using your theme without any Directories Plugin being used and that has the same issue when looking for images in the Media Gallery.
Can you please let me know if this is a bug?
Many thanks
Regards
Ian
Hi,
Maybe something happened with the wordpress uploads/media folder, or the database. The theme shouldn’t affect the search functionality of wordpress or a plugin.
Does it work if you make a quick test and switch to a default theme? I found some similar topics about media library issues
– https://wordpress.org/support/topic/media-files-not-showing-up-in-media-library/
– https://wpengine.com/resources/troubleshooting-wordpress-media-library/
In the latest update there were mostly fixes, and some new additions, better child theme support, but nothing major that would cause such problems.
Thanks
Hello Simion
Well, thanks for the responses these last couple of days – much appreciated…
It now appears that if I deactivate the Modern Events Calendar (MEC) plugin, the search works fine both in the back-end and front-end.
So…next step is to contact MEC support!
Cheers
Ian
