Can you help me understand why the images that are returned with the search results are too big, thus overwriting the text?
I tried regenerating thumbnails and this had no effect. I cleared the site cache and this did not help.

This is because of the thumbnail settings in wordpress. Please make sure you do not change the small thumb here:
