SEO Question (Normal pages vs Archive pages)

Hello,

I am creating a sports website with several different topics (different teams, news, etc) to cover. Normally i would create these topics as categories and use the default archive pages. But I think if i use blocks to build the topic pages I would have much more control of them and customize it to my liking.

So my question is, in terms of seo;

1) which of these pages would be better? Normal pages or archive pages?
2? what would be the best way to implement this? create normal pages and then no-follow archive pages? also the permalink structure?

Hi,

Indeed, the category pages can only be customized in the theme panel, at the moment. pages would offer much more control over the displayed content. There are plans to change this functionality in a coming update, the category pages will receive a different implementation which will offer a considerable amount of flexibility among others.

You could research online for SEO benefits of pages versus archives, maybe more qualified advice can be found regarding the matter. You will have to ultimately decide based on this.

Thanks

Yes, for functionality and customization of the page to my liking I would prefer to use blocks to build the category pages. But I was worried about the SEO implications. Will do more research on this.

About the category implementation update you talked about, when do you expect to roll it out?

It will be a big theme update so it might take a while. I could not give you an exact timeline, as soon as all the tasks are done it will be available.
