Several components (image box or the go button) adding /goto/ to the url

Several components are automatically adding the /goto/ component to the URL although you dont’t find it in the html code

Example:

Expected behaviour: https://www.the-linked-page.com
Current behaviour: https://www.my-page.com/goto/https://www.the-linked-page.com

How to solve it?

Hi,

I would need some more details and actual examples of this happening. Where is it happening exactly, for what URLs?
The theme does not modify the URL of your website, or add such parameters to it.
Please check your permalink structure if that is applicable here.

Hi I can provide you somne urls when the page goes live (actually it is in maintenace mode).

The components i wrote about are:

– Image Box (I have 3 Images, first url is ok, second and third have this /goto/ added)
– GO Button also adds this /goto/ function

For the image box the images should link to the URL you enter for each image

If the link is set properly there and the link is still with this “goto” parameter, that is not coming from the theme.
Deactivate all plugins except theme plugins and check again.

Hi,
the page is live now so I can provide some urls

Here is an example (chcek the grey button) https://www.hrs.de/hotel/presse/check-in-das-magazin-fuer-hotel-distribution/

As you can see on this screen, the url is entered properly in the component: https://imgur.com/Ok0CeOE

But in the code you have this /goto/ function: https://imgur.com/eRZsxsx

This is highly unusual, so this is happening even without plugins?

I made many tests with buttons, images etc. The links appear as I enter them in my case

https://www.screencast.com/t/R6nNqWGgw

In your case both the image and the button have that “goto”in after the initial link, then another URL is added

If have no idea why that happens, plugins would be the first guess. Did you make any modifications to the theme or added any code in theme files?

Maybe this is a type of malware which redirects your links, you could scan the website

Hi Simion,

I investigated it one more time.

The Plugin WP No External Links caused this issue. Just in case if anyone else in the future has this problem – here is the solution
