The title and description is not showing as expected when shared on social media. This is what it looks like: http://goo.gl/l3z7T0 – is this a problem with the theme?
Hi,
As you can see this is the description for your site http://screencast.com/t/FTNLA63urAW
You can change this using your seo plugin or you can use WordPress SEO by Yoast plugin, edit you homepage and the add your description here http://screencast.com/t/OG2ssGLXqu
Thanks
Thanks for that! I have installed the Yoast plugin.
For future reference could you tell me the path for the meta tags?
Hi,
Those meta tags are generated and inserted into the page, you can view them by viewing the page source of your site like this: http://screencast.com/t/KwwRSTqjX6O or you can use this debugger tool from Facebook https://developers.facebook.com/tools/debug/ to check your sharing link http://screencast.com/t/eToDOoEqCM
Thanks

After changing it how long should it take for the changes to take effect?
I’m having issues resolving this to be honest.
I have installed the SEO plugin by Yoast and added title and description which is showing when I right click > view page source. I have also done the same for social option in the SEO plugin by Yoast but when sharing the link to my homepage I still get this: http://take.ms/HMhfW (also happens on other social platforms)
For the sake of clarity here are screenshots of social and homepage meta information I have added in the SEO plugin by Yoast: http://take.ms/M0QpX and http://take.ms/k533C
I’d also like to add that I don’t understand the information when I add my URL here: https://developers.facebook.com/tools/debug/ Please help!!

Hello,
Try now, should work http://screencast.com/t/zJ0y2A1fGK7f
Seems like Facebook have a cache or something.
Thanks!
Yep, it’s working on Facebook but still displaying incorrectly on Twitter. See here: http://take.ms/7xetB
Note with twitter that once they cache a certain page, they don’t recache it once updated typically. I have this issue on couple of sites where we did some major updates and wanted to re share some pages, but both FB and twitter keep the OLD info, old photo, etc. and won’t update the NEW info, since they already have been “shared” the “old/bad” version. This may not apply to you, but keep in mind FB and Twitter have so much traffic and frequent technical issues, that sometimes there is simply nothing you can do about it as it has nothing to do with your site whatsoever.
Basically if you look at your page source and see all the properly formatted og:tags and twitter tags, description and title tags, then the issue is NOT with your site.
For example, I was sharing some stories from CNN to my G+ account, and all that was showing in the share was the photo and the page URL, no headline, and no description. Issue not with CNN, but with Google.
Likely doesn’t help, but it’s an on/off/on problem with sharing stuff to FB in particular, and sometimes G+. Twitter has been mostly stable, but they do have problems but they do at least have a developer page to SHOW what systems in their network are/are not working in realtinme.
Twitter status alert: http://status.twitter.com/
Twitter network/API status: https://dev.twitter.com/status
Facebook: Platform Live Status: https://developers.facebook.com/status/
example on Facebook Aug 1:
August 1 at 8:59am
Increased errors/latency on all Platform surfaces
Facebook is currently experiencing an issue that is affecting all API and web surfaces. Our engineers detected the issue quickly and are working to resolve it ASAP. We’ll update shortly.

Thank you Christopher! I’m still struggling getting it to work on Twitter, and yet to hear from support. 🙁
Hi,
Please try adding an “excerpt” also on the page http://screencast.com/t/19YNdNb1t and check if it’s getting the excerpt on your twitter sharing description instead of short-codes.
Should work now, I have checked your site and seems liker the description it’s set now: http://screencast.com/t/7FE2g5yPn
Hope this helps!
Thanks
Still not working 🙁
See this tweet: https://twitter.com/MarkkClifford/status/507607597956857856
Any Suggestions would be gratefully received.
I had this happen the other day on a post which
1) had no text at start of the post and so it grabbed the “code” from the post.
2) adding excerpt helped.
3) with the home page template, adding an excerpt to excerpt box, and also meta description for the home “page” used for page with Yoast SEO fixed it for me.
Just checked and I’ve done all of that. I’m a little baffled.
Try something other than twitter to test change, since they often “cache it once” even if wrong, so a new tweet might just keep showing the original with error, and won’t update (at least that is what I’ve seen.)
Be sure to check the page source and ensure the og and twitter tags are populated; which you likely already have done.
I came in late on this, so might not be relevant at this point.
Was just popping in to see if anybody was crashing with WP 4.0 🙂
Works fine on Facebook and Google Plus. Already checked twitter tags. Might try contacting Twitter about it and see if they will do anything.
I’ve just updated to WP 4.0… no issues, a few plugin updates though. Really like what they have done with Media and Plugins section.
