Is it true, that if “show tags” is enabled, tags from custom taxonomy is not shown, only the default tags?

Yes indeed that option works only for tag taxonomy. If you use custom post types and custom taxonomy you can choose the tag taxonomy for each post type from theme panel: http://screencast.com/t/x29JODpTOTiQ
