Hi,
I’ve just updated theme, and sidebar has been disappeared. I checked the theme panel and hasn’t changed any settings before update.
I don’t know where do I have to change though.

thank you.

I was using a child theme and it was perfectly ok but now it doesn’t show sidebar on the post. I activated theme 9.7.4 and downloaded child theme which came with the same compressed file. I activated the updated child theme which doesn’t show sidebar on the post. Newspaper theme itself is working perfectly, I don’t mind not using the child theme, just I used to use a child theme with another theme.

Is there any problem with not using the child theme?

Regards,

I have exactly the same problem on a client side. The default post template is completely different than before and none of the settings (whether to show date, author, etc.) is working. And the sidebar is not shown.

Same here! No sidebar, no related posts etc. Default post template completely messed up.

Yes, this is a bug in 9.7.4.
When using a child-theme, the default post template is not applied.
Should be fixed urgently!
Had to downgrade to 9.7.3 (which does have the bug, that individual templates can’t be applied when using a child theme).
So both versions (9.7.3 and 9.7.4) a buggy when using child themes.

Thank you, be2name!
I still have a copy of the last version, and the child theme was perfectly working with my site, I’ll reinstall that for now.

Hope they fix it very soon.

Hello !

We are sorry for your inconvenience !

It is mandatory to delete all what was left from the older version before intalling this update. Overwriting the files would cause a lot of problems and maybe you’ve missed something while deleting the old files. Have you checked the plugins to be deleted too ?

Also you have to install the new child theme wich is found in the archive that comes with the update.

If you are certain that you have installed the updates correctly by deleting all of the older versions and made a clean install from scratch please contact us via email at contact@tagdiv.com and provide admin login, as well as cPanel or FTP if possible. We will take a look. Include a link to this topic in the email.

Also take a look at our updated documentation about installing the theme and plugins: https://tagdiv.com/how-to-install-plugins-and-update-plugins/ ; https://tagdiv.com/how-to-install-newspaper-theme/

Thank you !

Hello Vlad,
I haven’t deleted anything manually but used the automatic WordPress/envato market/tagdiv update functions. So does the automatic update not work? Do I have to delete everything manually and install it again? I’m not sure, if this will really fix that issue.

Hello !

Yes ! You will have to do it manually due to change of file location the overwrite option wich come in most update options will cause issues. Please do the Theme and plugins update manually !

Thank you !

Hi Vlad,
I had followed the method which in your tutorial via WordPress, delete old theme and install the updated one, then I deleted the child theme, then installed updated child theme which came from updated theme pack.
But I hadn’t done plugins.
So do I have to delete all plugins before I install the updated theme? Is that safe? not losing my settings??

Post count: 20

I have done it manually and it still doesn’t work. I have also taken the new child theme. Still the sidebar does not show up on single posts and the post format does not consider the settings (no date, no author, etc.)

The last updates of Newspaper are extremely unprofessional. It breaks existing sites, has many bugs and for example the tagDiv Composer plugin has been updated in 9.7.4, but the version number did not change.

I was a big fan of Newspaper theme, but now I am thinking of switching to other themes.

We are also thinking of filing an official complaint with Envato. Selling a theme like this, which cannot be updated in a reasonable way and which has almost no child-theme support is difficult. Also all past positive reviews for the theme are questionable with regard to the current status of the theme.

There is definitely still a bug with child theme support in 9.7.4.

If I install the child-theme provided with the theme without any further modification, default single post pages are not working as intended (no sidebar, etc.). And this is not a problem only we have.

Hello !

Indeed the child theme implementation has changed as the theme files structure was altered in the last few updates. Please follow this updated guide regarding the child theme for proper implementation. Also if you encounter any issues let us know !

Here is the tutorial: https://forum.tagdiv.com/the-child-theme-support-tutorial/

The problem is also occurring if I take YOUR standard child-theme supplied with the latest Newspaper theme.

If I activate the Newspaper theme, single posts look fine.
If I activate the standard child theme, single posts have no sidebar, etc.

Hi Vlad,

I have just done as you said, I had deleted all last version themes include plugins. Then installed theme and child-theme then activate plugins from the updated theme.
Well, there is no siderbar on the post.

I will email you now.

thank you.

Could you check email please?

I also did a manual update now. Nothing changed and the error still exists, no matter if I use my own child-theme or the one provided with the theme. The error does not occur when using standard Newspaper theme. So there is definitely a bug in 9.7.4 with child-theme.

@Jaddy1219
and @Vlad-S Please let me know, when you found the reason for this and how to fix it.

Post count: 52

Yes, I’ve done 3 times, still having the same problem.
Fumm, I may create my own original child theme, I’ve done it when I was using the different theme which didn’t come with the theme.

I will let you know, be2name.

I’m waiting for a reply in my email box.

cheers,

Hello !

This could be a fix for some of you ! Take a look into this topic untill we manage to answer to all of your emails: https://forum.tagdiv.com/topic/cant-change-site-wide-post-template/

Thank you !

It is definitely a bug. When using the default child theme provided with the theme, switching between the parent theme and the child theme should not make any difference.

However in the child theme, the default post is not working.

Please fix this bug instead of giving us links to tutorials that don’t solve the problem. And as many people have the same issue, it seems to be a problem.

Hello !

Try doing this:

In Theme Panel go to Style 2 since is the same as default. We did manage to recreate the bug on our side and our developers are doing their best to fix it. https://www.screencast.com/t/3AWjg0dIm3j

Let me know how it worked on your page !

Thank you !

Post count: 209

Hello Vlad,
right now switching to Style 2 is only a very hot hotfix for this bug, because Style 2 is NOT the same as default. The Headline in Style 2 runs over the whole width, while in default it only is above the content area on the left.
Good you were able to recreate the bug, so hopefully you will be able to offer a fix for that error today.

Hello !

If the previous option did not seemed right please add these files in Child theme root as you can see here. It worked on our side great: https://www.screencast.com/t/pxAuHAjPY4

Please let us know about the result !

Again, we are sorry for the inconvenience !

Thank you !
