Hi,
There seems to be an issue with the Single Background Image element when adding a custom field {cf_xxx } as image Link. At the same time, adding the image with a custom field works properly.
Example: Link
The custom field as image Link instead leads to a broken link in the frontend, e.g.: Link
The exact same custom field added to a button as Button URL seems to have no issue: Link
Something must be wrong with the Single Background Image Link field.

This is not implemented to work like that for Single Background Image. You can use only the external image.
You can try to use a Single image, and there you can set the image link using acf.
