I put the single image element on the frontpage and set the on click action as “open custom link”
and set the image link url.
But it does not work at all. When I click the image , nothing happens on explorer , chrome, even mobile phone.

Hello rapision,
First of all, ensure that you are using the latest theme version without any untested plugins which can interact with the theme core files and causes a lot of unknown issues. Use a clear theme’s version without any untested plugins and additional customizations and check the results. If the problem is still there, you should provide your website URL so we can inspect it.
